The world of vehicle technology is one that is constantly changing as we all know, and remote updates are becoming more and more common for our tech-heavy cars. In previous years, we\u2019ve needed to trudge down to our dealership to get the software updated to newer versions but recent updates and the improvements with remote and cloud-based systems have made it possible to not only update to new systems virtually, but can also open the vehicle world up to upgrades. Mercedes are taking this increased connectivity in their stride. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking advantage of these new technologies, Mercedes-Benz is set to introduce added-cost subscription packages that improve their vehicles’ performance starting with \u201cAcceleration Increase.\u201d This particular subscription is available for new EQ models and offers a boost in performance for an additional cost per year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subscribers will be treated to an output increase of up to 24%, with the EQE 350 4Matic SUV seeing the most notable improvements. Acceleration times are set to drop from 6.2 0-60mph times, to 5.2 seconds. This is currently only available in the USA, however, we could see similar services appearing in the UK sooner than we think. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This package will set drivers back around $1,200 per year excluding taxes, but will significantly increase torque and acceleration within your vehicle. This of course means that a limiter will be placed on these vehicles to prevent top performance being reached without an active subscription. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The question on the lips of Mercedes fans worldwide, however, is why this level of performance isn\u2019t just available as standard. If the technology is in place for the car to reach that level of acceleration, why can the car not just do this to begin with? With the backlash BMW have recently received for a similar subscription service that would offer heated seats, a heated steering wheel or a dash cam for monthly or one-off costs, it\u2019s unclear as to whether Mercedes-Benz\u2019s own subscriptions are likely to be very popular at all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether this particular acceleration increase subscription spreads further than the USA or is at all popular there has yet to be seen, but at such a pivotal moment in the changing automotive industry, what we do know is that we could see some similar and much-improved technological updates in the near future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
