The Mercedes EQG Is On Track For 2024 – Here’s What We Know

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz has certainly been pushing out the EVs since announcing quite the impressive lineup in 2021 and has gone above and beyond their 2022 deadline with even more models set to hit the markets in the coming months. The EQG SUV is amongst the up-and-coming models but previously hadn’t had a set-in-stone release date. Well, now Mercedes has confirmed that the EQG is on track for a 2024 release and is set to feature everything from Mercedes’ traditionally luxurious designs to innovative new battery technology that’ll truly set it apart from the rest.

After first debuting as a concept vehicle at Munchen IAA Mobility in September 2021, the EQG has since been made a reality. At concept level, the electric version was revealed with very few specifications available to us, however, it was definitely an impressive insight into Mercedes-Benz’s approach to updating what has been a staple off-roader in their range. While exact details will likely be released throughout the production process, there are a few things we already know.

The first is that the EQG will maintain and celebrate the existing G-Class structure, with a ladder frame chassis and a specially-designed rigid rear axle that will allow for the integration of electric motors and a two-speed gearbox. The battery will also be mounted within the chassis to help lower the vehicle’s centre of gravity, offering a smoother and more reliable off-roading experience than any of Mercedes’ existing electric vehicles. The exact power specifications are unknown, however, the four electric motors the EQG is set to host will offer a high torque output to help this impressive SUV power over rough terrain with ease.

The EQG concept also featured a blanked-off grille that hosted a 3D light effect pattern and LED light strips that truly brought this vehicle up a notch from its petrol and diesel predecessors. There’s also a lockable storage container on the tailgate not too dissimilar in style to the Mercedes Wallbox, and 22-inch alloy wheels that are similar in design to the AMG Monoblock wheels.

While an official release date still hadn’t been unveiled, Mercedes Benz has confirmed that the EQG is on track to hit UK markets in 2024. Mercedes chairman Ola Kallenius told the media that fans and buyers can expect to see the launch around mid-year, with sale dates varying by market.
